Water Hazard |
|
There are two types of water hazards -- a water hazard (marked by yellow stakes or lines) and a lateral water hazard (red stakes or lines) with additional relief options. If a player finds his ball in the hazard, he may play it as it lies. (Rule 26-2 covers what happens if he tries and ends up deeper in the hazard or out of bounds.) There are four ways of taking relief with a one-stroke penalty, but two apply only to lateral water hazards. |

It stayed dry in Hercules yesterday and, unlike the pros at the Masters, half of the players finished under par (net, of course). Frank Lucero and Mike Montgomery won overall Nassau with net 66. Mike won front (32) while Frank and Justin Warren tied back (30). Big skins winners were Mike, Frank, Darlene Warren and Justin Kegal. Red or Yellow Stake: The first option is going back and playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played. The second allows the player to drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped. To clear up a common misconception, it should be noted that this is not the same as the line of flight. Red stake only: The options available only for lateral water hazards are dropping a ball outside the water hazard within two club-lengths of and not nearer the hole than (i) the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard or (ii) a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole. |
